Where to Find MIDI and KAR Karaoke Files
Where to Find MIDI and KAR Karaoke Files
SongHub ships with no songs — you supply them. The good news: the karaoke community has been collecting MIDI (.mid) and KAR (.kar) files for decades, and huge libraries circulate freely. Here's how to find them without getting scammed.
Start with the tutorial channels
The Filipino YouTube channels that popularized SongHub are the most practical starting point. They don't just link song collections — they show the whole setup on video, name the exact soundfont they use, and answer questions in the comments. Follow a recent tutorial from a channel with real engagement; the links they share are the same ones thousands of viewers already use.
Community collections
Beyond YouTube, karaoke communities on Facebook (including groups around SongHub itself) share organized song packs — often sorted by genre, era, or OPM vs. international. The big ones reach 47,000+ songs. These are community-shared and free; if anyone tries to sell you a "premium" song pack, walk away. The developer has explicitly called out people monetizing the ecosystem.
What to look for in a good collection
- KAR over MID when available — synced lyrics included.
- Clean file names (Artist - Title.kar) — messy names make the songbook hard to search.
- Recent uploads — collections get refreshed with new releases; a 2021 pack won't have this year's OPM hits.
Red flags
- Sites demanding payment, "premium accounts," or SMS verification for song packs.
- Executable (.exe) "song pack installers" — song files are .mid/.kar, never executables.
- Links that don't match what the tutorial channel actually posted — always cross-check the URL.
A note on legality
MIDI renditions occupy a gray area: they're community-made interpretations, not copies of recordings, but the underlying compositions belong to their writers. We can't give legal advice — what's clear is that the app is legitimate free software, and the file-sharing happens in fan communities. Use reputable community sources, don't pay middlemen, and don't redistribute commercially. Once you've got files, the setup guide shows how to load them into your library.
