SongHub FAQ: Is It Free? Is It on the Play Store?

SongHub FAQ: Is It Free? Is It on the Play Store? Does It Need Internet?

The same questions come up in every SongHub group. Here are straight answers.

Is SongHub really free?

Yes — 100% free for personal use, no subscriptions, no locked features, no ads. It's a personal project by developer jpdcs. Anyone charging you for the app, for installation, or for "premium" song packs is scamming you; the developer has publicly warned against exactly this.

Why isn't it on the Google Play Store?

The developer distributes it directly through GitHub releases instead. That means you sideload the APK — download it from the official releases page, allow the install once, done. It also means you should be extra careful to get the file from the genuine URL and nowhere else.

Does it need the internet?

Only for the initial download. Once the app, your songs, and your soundfont are on the device, everything works offline — searching, playback, lyrics. That's one of the main reasons it's popular in areas with unreliable connections.

Does it come with songs?

No. SongHub is just the player — you add your own .mid and .kar files plus a .sf2 soundfont. See setting up songs and soundfonts and where to find song files.

Will it work on my TV?

If it's an Android TV / Google TV device or TV box, yes — and that's the best way to use it for parties. See the Android TV setup guide.

Do I need a microphone?

The app handles music and lyrics; the mic is separate hardware. Most people plug a mic into their speaker or a small mixer alongside the TV/phone audio. Bluetooth mics can add delay — wired is more reliable.

Is it safe to install?

The official APK is clean — but only the official one. Install solely from github.com/jpdcs/SongHub-Android/releases, let your phone's security scan check it, and never install copies from re-upload sites, short links, or chat forwards.

What if a new update comes out?

Check the releases page periodically — the developer posts updates there (and announces them in the community). Note that some updates require a fresh install (uninstall, then install the new version); back up your song folder first so you don't have to re-copy tens of thousands of files.

Who do I contact about bugs?

Not us — we're an independent guide. Bug reports and feature requests go to the developer through the GitHub repository, and community help lives in the SongHub Karaoke Facebook group.
